Casa Noble Single Barrel Anejo

Gringo Rating: 10
Price: $120
Review: One of the great tequilas
TequilaGringo.com: Let's just start with, "wow". We were already huge huge fans of the five year, so we came into this with high hopes. The bottle is a very similar design to the 5 year, but with silver accents where on the 5 year there's gold. Each bottle is also numbered and signed in a classy way. We found that it had a familiar nose, similar to the 5 year. Taste followed with delicious caramel, perhaps just a bit stronger than the 5 year we'd grown accustomed to (though that of course could simply be the barrel our tequila came from). The finish, amazingly smooth. This tequila won the double gold at the 2009 SF Spirit Awards, and with good reason. Treat yourself to a little something special a

What I’m Drinking Now: Tequila
Posted on July 19th, 2009 8:01pm by Hayley Hamilton Filed under Wine & Spirits, cocktails

Friday, July 24th, is National Tequila Day….yes, tequila has its own day….and to honor this occasion I have been drinking a lot of tequila! So, why does tequila earn the right to have its own day? I had a conversation recently over a tequila pairing dinner with Jose Hermosillo of Casa Noble Tequila to learn why tequila has the right to it’s own national day.
For Casa Noble, a tequila producer since 1776, it is a passion for growing 100% USDA certified Organic Blue Agave plants, that is hand picked, slowly cooked for 38 hours in stone ovens. Only the agave heart and core are used in their tequila, which is then triple distilled for the cleanest flavor. This is classic tequila production with traditional methods that have been in place for over 200 years. Casa Noble then ages their Reposado and Anejo in 100% new French oak barrels, imparting the flavor profiles often found in wine like vanilla, chocolate and spice.

Similar to Casa Noble in their dedication to quality, Patrón focuses on tradition in their production of tequila from 100 percent Weber Blue agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. From harvest to bottle production includes the careful precision, inspection and care that is done by hand.
Award winning Herredura has been producing handcrafted tequila since 1870. Tradition, heart and soul go into every bottle of Herredura, which maintains the same producing style used by the founders of this smooth spirit.
With abundant tequila options to choose from, try these signature cocktails on Friday as you toast this day honoring this celebrated spirit.

Casa Noble Nobelita:CasaNoble’s signature cocktail, made with Casa Noble Crystal, Organic Orange Juice, and Pom Pomegranate Juice, served on the rocks.
The Fish in Dallas created their signature Casa Noble:Casa Noble Crystal Tequila, Lychee, Strawberries, and muddled with a splash of Mango Liquor and served on the rocks.

Paloma:2 oz Casa Noble Tequila Reposado, Fresh Grapefruit Juice, 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice, splash of Fresca sodaPour ingredients over ice
Or, if you are in the mood for a simpler flavor, try the Casa Noble Anejo straight up. This tequila is aged 2 full years in new French oak, imparting vanilla, chocolate, butterscotch and sweet spice in this sipping tequila. As Jose suggested, great tequila should be served at room temperature to fully enjoy the flavors.

Tequila and Sushi, Together At Last
By Patrick Michels in Conspicuous Consumption
Friday, Jul. 17 2009 @ 5:10PM

Hoping to prove his is a kinder, gentler brand of the Mexican ass-kicking liquor, Casa Noble Tequila's Jose Hermosillo invited local media to be his guests guinea pigs Thursday night for a pairing of his tequila with courses from chef Ve Le at The Fish in the West Village.
The suggestion here was that good tequila is subtle and smooth enough to drink alongside all kinds of food--Hermosillo recently hosted a tequila-and-cheese happening in Los Angeles--and that when you've got a good bottle of tequila, you can sip your way through a few rounds without turning into a Tracy Byrd anti-hero destined for a hangover.
I've been no stranger to pairing booze with sushi, but those nights involving tequila had a way of ending with Jackass-style contests taking pulls of wasabi straight from the tube.
With a menu of a much higher pedigree, then, how far under the table did we slip this time? And did raw fish even stand a chance against the drink's George Foreman-grade potency?

Hermosillo gives the blanco a whiff.Hermosillo began by describing the tequila-making process at his family business, which started in 1776. Perhaps sensing he was talking to a native Californian, he pointed out the Casa Noble is one of just three organic tequilas (the brand is USDA certified) and is working toward a green certification in Mexico as well, limiting its environmental impact at its production facilities.

A glass each of the brand's blanco, reposado and añejo sat on the table in The Fish's private wine tasting room, and one by one, Chef Le's courses came out, each meant to accompany a particular tequila.
In what seemed to me like a bit of a copout, though, only the first course, which paired with the blanco, had an element of sushi to it: a few pieces of snapper alongside a Fuji apple salad.
A seared scallop quivered next to an arrugula salad with goat cheese and cranberries for the second course, which went with the reposado. (Casa Noble ages theirs for 364 days in French red oak barrels.)
By the time the third course rolled around, the whole tequila/sushi novelty act was finished. Our waiter brought out plates of sliced duck breast surrounded by apple puree and bing cherries, which went along with the last tequila, the darker añejo which is aged two years.
To finish off the evening, The Fish's chocolate cake came out for a second complement to the añejo, rounding out a wide variety of flavors we had to match against the tequilas. There's no doubt Hermosillo's is mellower and much more interesting than your garden variety shoot-it-and-fall-over tequila, the jury's still out on how nicely they'd play alongside a delicate plate of raw fish.

That's "The Fish," capital T, capital F.

Special for the occasion, The Fish's bartender concocted these tequila cocktails with lychee, mango and muddled strawberries

Casa Noble Sponsors Greg Miller Opening at The William Turner Gallery

On June 27th, at the William Turner Gallery, located in the Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, Greg Miller unvailed his recent works.
Greg Miler’s work is sexy, thought provoking, and Angeleno inspired art, where unspoken heroes, and the lure of women casually mingle together. Miller offers the excitement of discovery mixed with the unexpected thrill of recovering something long lost. Bold contemporary images and popular themes are intermingled with text and presented in billboard-like simplicity, offering a varied and often surprising look at the timelessness of American historical and cultural events. The merging of pop culture, American Art, and the conceptual art movement of the 60s and 70s provide the content that is found throughout my art, paintings, and films.

Healthy Organic Spirits, Mixers and Cocktails that Prevent Hangovers

Supplement sugary mixers with berries and beets to turn a once diet-sabotaging drink into a healthy cocktail that's better for both your body and the earth.
By Laurel HouseSanta Monica, CA, USA Tue Jul 14 08:00:00 EDT 2009

Cocktails don't have to be such diet killers. You don't have to wake up with a hangover that defeats the day after. Your immune system doesn't have to be completely depleted after a dozy. You don't have to wake up feeling listless and moody in the morning. If you are a smart cocktail consumer you can choose multitasking mixers that make your drinks do double-duty: they'll make you feel good and your body will thank you the next day.

Organic Spirits are Healthier for the Planet
To make your favorite cocktail instantly healthier, first and foremost choose
organic spirits. Unless of course you enjoy sucking down chemicals. Don't forget that your favorite vodka, gin, tequila, sake, or whiskey started as a seedling. Whatever fed that little sprout became part of its makeup—water, chemical sprays, plant food and all. Sure, those chemicals and fertilizers where sprayed with the intention of "protecting" the crops from invading insects and illness, but they also seeped into the earth; and the circle of contaminated soil, water, and our bloodstream so began. Point? Organic spirits are free from noxious chemicals making them healthier for the planet and for you.
Organic Spirits can help Prevent a Hangover
We get it, when standing at a crowded bar amidst throngs of friends and singles all vying for attention, the earth's health might not be the first thing on your mind. But what about your own? If you were offered a vodka with a shot of chemical mixer would you say with glee "Oh yes, please!" Probably not. What if I told you that by drinking organic spirits you can minimize your hangover? Would that get your attention? Thought so. You see, according to Holistic Nutritionist Jason Deyo, organic spirits are absolutely the way to go in order to better your chances of avoiding a hangover. "Our livers are overburdened as it is with the excess consumption of toxic calories; when we consider the pesticide content of the conventionally grown wheat and corn in this country that we can avoid taking by choosing organic spirits, the choice is clear." Choosing organic spirits also has positive environmental effects like limiting the amount of chemicals that wind up in the groundwater.

Deyo explains that "Our liver is the basic detoxification center for what gets through the intestines. Alcohol irritates the liver by creating excess free radical damage during the detoxification process. If we're going to consume alcohol, especially in any large quantity, we want to try to limit the load of toxins and pesticides we have to process by choosing organic." In other words, alcohol irritates the liver enough. Add chemicals from conventional spirits to the equation and you've got an overworked and overstressed liver (leaving you suffering from a hangover the next day). Organic spirits aren't filled with the liver-taxing chemicals that conventional spirits are filled with. Therefore, you are minimizing the load of toxins and pesticides filtering through your liver. Bottom line: Drink organic spirits, lower your likelihood of having a hangover. I'm sold!
Paul Davis, a pioneer and producer of organic spirits in the United States, agrees "because organic spirits tend to make for a cleaner, smoother taste and, dare I say, less hangover." Apparently a big believer in the organic production of spirits, Davis doesn’t just grow all ingredients on certified organic farms, but his rye is grown only on one farm in Germany that has been biodynamic for the past 10 years. In fact, his organic vodka and Juniper Green are so pure they are unfiltered. This is actually a good thing, according to Davis. "The world has been taught through advertising that filtering is good, but that is not entirely true. They filter because if they did not, their vodka would not be consumable. While it is true that if you filter, the product is stripped of all the congeners and other nasty stuff, all the good qualities and character is also stripped out." After all, you can't take out the bad without taking out some of the good.
Not sure if your alcohol of choice is offered organically? You'd be surprised. Here are a few to try:

Tequila
Casa Noble Tequila produces three 100% organic, ultra-premium, triple-distilled tequilas including Crystal, Reposado, and Anejo, all made from 100% organic Blue Agave. We're talking not only organic, but this stuff will rival and reign over most any other tequila. Yes, it's that tasty.

Some herbs are especially adept at strengthening and nourishing the nervous system, helping to put the psyche at ease. More than simply tranquilizing,
nervines (plant remedies that calm the nervous system) are able to have a profoundly calming effect on both the body and mind. Roman chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, passion flower, and valerian are all known to have the pacifying effect.
